It has been a gripe of every 18 year old since they raised the drinking age to 21.  I understand why they did it, I mean at 18 you don’t really make the best decisions regarding drinking, and that is evident by the many “binge drinking deaths” going on constantly at college campuses.  Yet how many DUI’s do 21 year olds and older receive, or how many get alcohol poisoning?  My husband and I personally have never had one, not saying that we haven’t deserved a few when we were 21, we were just lucky enough that we weren’t caught, or killed someone by the stupidness that we showed.  Yet I know people who are almost 30 or older that drink and drive all the time, they have DUI’s and find it no big deal.  They get a DUI, loose there license, get hauled around everywhere, get their license back, then do it all over again.  Other people who are above the legal drinking age are rushed to the hospitals with alcohol poisoning constantly.  They show the same maturity about it as an 18 year old would, so why is it ok for you to do it once you are 21?  I doesn’t fit.  Now I know I may make a lot of 18 year olds happy with this next comment, and others really wonder if I have a brain at all so just hear me out.  I believe the legal drinking age should be 18.  The reason above is all a matter of personal opinion, that is for sure.  Someone may stop by this blog and pull out some stats that would show when the legal drinking age was 18, that 95% of 18 year olds were getting DUI’s or worse.  That may make me change my opinion if  that is all I was basing it off of, but I am not.  Let me explain.  When you are 18 years old, you are able to do so much.  You can move out of your parents house, stop going to school, leave the country, get married, hell, star in a porn movie if you would like (but definately not recommended!), all without your parents being able to do a thing about it.  You can also, join the Armed Forces, and die for your country.  And that is what I am basing my opinion off of, if good ol’ “Uncle Sam” is going to ask an 18 year old to go to some foreign country, fight a battle for him, and possibly give up his or her life for this country, I believe ”Uncle Sam” should serve that person a legal beer.
