Racism
June 10, 2008
So I watch the news a lot, and I see at least one story a day about something regarding racism. I believe that no one should be judged by the color of skin, or their sexual orientation. I believe a person is a person is a person, and that we all have great qualities, that’s what makes us unique. I am not saying that racism has ever gone completely away, there are some people out there that are just plain stupid. But it infuriates me that some people out there are refueling racism in today’s society. Now I don’t mean to get on a rant here, but I was watching the news, and they started talking about the Spike Lee vs. Clint Eastwood thing. For those of you who don’t know, Spike Lee is slamming Clint Eastwood because his movies Flags of Our Fathers and Letters From Iwo Jima, did not depict any African Americans. It doesn’t seem to matter to Mr. Lee, that these movies are historically accurate. However, the two have been exchanging words and when Clint Eastwood told Spike Lee to “Shut his Face” Spike replied, “He is not my father, and we are not on a plantation.” I feel utterly sickened that some people preach about racism and how we need to put it behind us, yet these same people make everything a racism issue. There is a double standard anymore and it is appalling. Why is it that there is a network that only shows movies about African Americans, starring African Americans, and nothing to do with other races, because the truth is that if anyone else had a station like that, it would be called racist, sued, then shut down. What ever happened to the best person for the job or the student with the best grades gets the college? In my opinion affirmative action, which was once a great concept, has been turned into a racist ideology. If I were anyone of these people, I would be humiliated when others looked back and were able to truthfully say, that I did nothing to end racism, yet did everything I could to promote it. But that’s just my opinion, I could be wrong.
